A sort of typical breakfast stand, with some sort of lentils or beans and a bit of chapati.
|
A Rajasthan breakfast, with something like dry rice or corn flakes served under parsley and other bits. |
A dhosa stand in Jodhpur, one of my favorite establishments. |
A real thali in Gujarat. Basically a vegetarian smorgasbord with stuff I didn't recognize. But it was quite tasty. Cost? Under US$1. |
Some sort of chickpeas or beans, mixed in with a puff of bread, tomatoes, etc. |
Another unidentifiable breakfast, with lentil soup, a kind of yoghurt or raita and I don't know what else. But it was tasty. |
Ah, the roti. With beans and sauce. It tastes a lot better than it looks. |
OK, so it's not all weird stuff. My favorite lunch ever on the houseboat in Kerala. Salads, fish curry, rice, dal, papadam bread, and all good for you too! |

The scene at a train food vendor.

A man makes dumplings, called momo locally, in Darjeeling. It's pretty much like a wonton. |
A clay cup for chai, or tea. You pay your 5 cents, drink the tea, and toss the cup away. Or keep it like I did and tote it back home. |
