Goa
February 2009

Goa is all about relaxing on the beach, so there are not many photos. It is an idyllic spot on the west coast, controlled by the Portuguese until 1961. Nowadays lots of young folk and hippies, not to mention package tourists from Russia, flock to the sands.

A view from the hut. The beach is just behind the trees, and the cost is $6 a night.

Fishing boats along the beach, which usually go out at night to set their nets.

Fisherman clean and maintain their boats (outriggers in view) the morning after a trip.

Nowhere else to dry the nets but in the middle of the road. It's pretty quite in Goa, fortunately.

Sardines drying in the sun. Fishing seems pretty spartan around here; these small fish seem pretty typical of the catches being made.

A roadside Catholic shrine, similar to the many Hindu shrines seen all over India.
